The Lab
The short version of what you can expect from this website, and what we ask in return.
The articles, case studies and resources on transitionslab.org are the Lab's own analysis, published openly for a general reader. They are not professional advice for any specific project or decision. If you are making a real investment, policy, procurement or programme choice on the basis of anything you read here, treat it as a starting point and take proper advice for your context. That includes our own writing about specific companies, technologies, jurisdictions and instruments: we describe what we have observed and what we think it implies, not what you should do.
If you are interested in commissioning research for your own decision, that is a separate arrangement made under engagement terms we agree in writing.
Unless we say otherwise on the page itself, everything published on this site (words, diagrams, illustrations, downloadable PDFs and datasets) is the Lab's copyright. You are welcome to:
You may not without our written permission:
For anything beyond a short quote or a link, write to us. We are usually straightforward about permission when the reuse is respectful and clearly credited.
We link to reports, articles, datasets and organisations that we think are worth reading. We do not control those sites, do not routinely re-check them, and cannot be held responsible for what appears on them or what happens if you follow a link. A link is not an endorsement.
Illustrations, diagrams and infographics on the site are the Lab's own work unless the caption says otherwise. Where we reproduce a figure from someone else's research, we attribute it in the caption and link to the source.
Photographs on case-study and expertise pages are used with permission of the people or organisations photographed. If you appear in one and want it changed or removed, write to us and we will act quickly.
Not a place to lodge complaints against organisations we write about. If you disagree with something we have said, tell us directly.
Not a channel for confidential disclosures, whistleblowing or sensitive personal information. Please do not send us any of that through the website; if you have something serious to discuss with the Lab, ask us for a secure channel first.
Not an application portal. We do not currently accept unsolicited job applications through the site.
You are welcome to visit the site, cache pages for offline reading, and use ordinary reader tools. Please do not:
If you want to bulk-download articles for a legitimate research purpose (an archive, a corpus, a systematic review), write to us and we will very likely say yes.
We take care with what we publish and we correct mistakes quickly when they are pointed out. We cannot be liable for losses that arise from decisions you or anyone else makes on the basis of the site's content, from third-party links, from temporary unavailability, or from things outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Dutch law.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Netherlands.
If we change these terms materially, the Last updated date changes and we may draw your attention to it on relevant pages. Continued use of the site after the change means you have accepted the new version.
